Smoked Salmon Tin Dip

The Five-Minute Dip That Makes You Look Like You Tried

Holiday season brings a lot of parties, and someone has to bring the snacks. This year, let that someone be you, and let the snacks take about five minutes.

This smoked salmon dip starts with two tins of our wild Copper River salmon. They're shelf-stable, so they've been waiting patiently in your pantry and you can skip the panicked run to the store. Add cream cheese, a little horseradish, some dill, a few capers and a whisper of maple. Stir. Done. Accept compliments.

It's smoky, creamy and tangy, with a touch of sweet. It disappears fast, so maybe make two batches.

What You'll Need

  • 2 tins Sena Sea smoked Copper River salmon
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish
  • 1 teaspoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon capers
  • 1/4 teaspoon maple syrup

That's it. Six ingredients, and one of them is the star.

How to Make It

  1. Open the tins and drain off any liquid. Flake the salmon into a bowl with a fork.
  2. Add the softened cream cheese and mash it into the salmon until it's mostly smooth. A few chunky bits are a feature, not a flaw.
  3. Stir in the horseradish, dill, capers and maple syrup.
  4. Taste. Want more kick? Add a little more horseradish. Want more brightness? A squeeze of lemon never hurt anyone.
  5. Serve right away, or chill for 30 minutes so the flavors get to know each other.

How to Serve It

Pile it in a bowl, top with a sprig of dill and a few extra capers, and surround it with things to dip:

  • Crackers or crostini
  • Bagel chips
  • Cucumber rounds and endive leaves, for the crunch crowd
  • Rye toast points, if you're feeling a little Nordic
  • A spoon

Leftovers, if there are any, make a great bagel spread the next morning. Or spoon a dollop onto scrambled eggs and call it brunch.

Pro Move: Gift the Tins Too

Here's the secret. Bring the dip to the party, and bring a couple of tins as a host gift. Our smoked Copper River salmon is wild caught by our family and fishermen we trust, then hand-packed and traditionally smoked. It needs no refrigeration, so it tucks into a gift bag or a stocking with zero fuss.

Your host gets a snack today and a dip kit for later. You get invited back. Everybody wins.
