Handcrafting our Cedar Boxes

Posted by Sena Wheeler on

Our Copper River Sockeye is hand caught and hand selected, then hand smoked and jarred. The beautiful cedar boxes are hand crafted by Rich in the off-season.

In the spring and summer, Rich's passion is fishing. In the off-season, his hobby is wordworking (little-known-fact, he actually minored in Wood Art in college). On the boat, Rich dreams up projects and builds them in his head. He loves to get home and get working on all his dreams. He built these beautiful boxes as a labor of love and a gift to you.

First is the tree. Not just any tree. Rich chooses each tree with care, looking for straight lines, and consistency in grain and color. This cedar log was given to Rich by a good friend.

Rich loves his portable Woodmizer saw mill. This type of band-saw mill produces less waste with every cut than a circular-saw type.

Each piece is dried out by the wood stove to prevent shrinking and warping once the boxes are created.

Rich takes pride in assembling each box individually.

Looks great!

These boxes make great handmade gifts. Spoiler alert- all our friends will be getting one this year!
