Dear Norway: We've Got Your Salmon Right Here
We love soccer. We love Norway. I am Norwegian!
But we have some notes.
When the Norwegian national team traveled to the US for their matches, they reportedly shipped thousands of pounds of farmed Norwegian salmon across the Atlantic to feed their players. Which, points for commitment to your team's nutrition, genuinely. But also: gentlemen, you crossed an entire ocean when the best salmon in the world was already here waiting for you.
Here's the thing about farmed Norwegian salmon. It's consistent, it's predictable, and it will absolutely do the job if the job is just eating salmon. But if the job is fueling elite athletes who need every edge they can get? Wild Alaskan salmon isn't even in the same conversation.
Wild Copper River salmon isn't just better because we say so, the fish earn it. They spend their lives fighting one of the most brutal river systems in Alaska, building the fat reserves rich in omega-3s they need to make that journey. That effort translates directly into what ends up on your plate: deeper flavor, higher nutrient density, and a nutritional profile that farmed fish simply can't replicate. Wild Alaskan salmon is also a complete protein, meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids your body can't produce on its own. For athletes, that matters. Complete protein supports muscle repair, speeds recovery, and helps maintain lean mass through a grueling tournament schedule. Add in the omega-3s, which reduce inflammation, support brain function, and keep joints moving, and you're looking at one of the most effective performance foods on the planet. Naturally.
I feed this fish to my own kids. They're athletes, and I'm not subtle about the advantage I think it gives them. There's a reason Copper River has been the gold standard of salmon for decades, and it has nothing to do with marketing.
So Norway, with the utmost respect: next time, skip the transatlantic freight. Wild American salmon has been here the whole time. Your players will thank you.
Here's a picture from our family trip to Norway a few years ago with my dad and kids (who were a little cold)
